\nWe write to you on an urgent matter. As you know, Bill C-33 is slated to return to the House of Commons for third and final reading this week, quite possibly today.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\nWe are concerned that your caucus may be supporting this misguided legislation which will allow the federal government to implement regulations requiring 5% biofuel content in gasoline by 2010, in addition to handing up to $2.2 billion in subsidies for biofuels at a time when the world is struggling to address a global food crisis.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\nThere are several key reasons for the food crisis such as rising energy costs, unfair trade rules and the acute impact of climate change on billions of people living in vulnerable ecosystems. Bill C-33 however, would do even more environmental harm than good by redirecting food crops to fuel resulting in even greater increases in food prices and speculation.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\nIf you and your party support this bill, your action will help put food further out of reach of millions of hungry people.

Nous vous \u00e9crivons parce qu\u2019il y a urgence. Comme vous le savez, le projet de loi C-33 reviendra en Chambre cette semaine, peut-\u00eatre m\u00eame aujourd\u2019hui, pour sa troisi\u00e8me et derni\u00e8re lecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nous craignons que votre caucus appuie ce malencontreux projet de loi permettant au gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de prescrire des r\u00e8glements exigeant, d\u2019ici 2010, que l\u2019essence contienne 5\u00a0% de biocarburant, en plus des 2,2 milliards\u00a0$ accord\u00e9s en subventions alors que le monde se d\u00e9bat avec une crise alimentaire mondiale.<\/span><\/p>\n

La crise alimentaire s\u2019explique notamment par la hausse du prix de l\u2019\u00e9nergie, des r\u00e8gles commerciales injustes, et les graves effets du changement<\/span> climatique sur les milliards de gens vivant dans des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes fragiles. Mais le projet de loi C-33 serait encore plus dommageable pour l\u2019environnement en d\u00e9tournant les cultures vivri\u00e8res vers un carburant, faisant augmenter encore davantage les prix des aliments, et entra\u00eenant la sp\u00e9culation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Si vous et votre parti appuyez ce projet de loi, votre geste contribuera \u00e0 pousser les aliments encore plus hors de la port\u00e9e de millions de gens qui ont faim.<\/span><\/p>\n

Si vous pensez appuyer ce projet de loi, vous pouvez encore modifier la position de votre parti imm\u00e9diatement, et faire conna\u00eetre publiquement votre d\u00e9cision. Ainsi pourrons-nous, ensemble, contrer cette loi avant que le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral ait la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019exacerber encore davantage la crise alimentaire.<\/span><\/p>\n
