{"id":182,"date":"2008-09-30T23:53:03","date_gmt":"2008-09-30T23:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rightoncanada.ouderkirk.ca\/?p=182"},"modified":"2008-09-30T23:53:03","modified_gmt":"2008-09-30T23:53:03","slug":"pesticides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rightoncanada.ca\/?p=182","title":{"rendered":"Pesticides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #375964;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/central.bcwebinc.com\/~rightcan\/atf\/cf\/%7B84471E05-2737-459A-9BE4-89CC6F1CA108%7D\/pesticide-apple.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"left\" \/>It\u2019s hard to believe, but the Harper government, dedicated to ever greater integration of Canada into the US, wants to \u201charmonize\u201d the types and levels of pesticide residue allowed on fruits and vegetables and in dairy products with those of the US and Mexico.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #375964;\">It\u2019s part of plans being made behind closed doors to streamline Canadian standards with often lower U.S. standards, instead of improving our standards to those adopted by the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #375964;\">Our government apparently sees regulations to  protect public health as a \u201cfree trade irritant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #375964;\">And pesticides are just the beginning. Some 300 regulatory regimes are going through the same race-to-the-bottom process under the auspices of the Security and Prosperity Partnership &#8211; so-called \u201cdeep integration\u201d &#8211; signed by Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #375964;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/central.bcwebinc.com\/~rightcan\/c.juIZLdMOJrE\/b.2517563\/k.8F11\/Take_Action\/siteapps\/advocacy\/ActionItem.aspx?c=juIZLdMOJrE&amp;b=2517563&amp;aid=8669\">Please  take 60 seconds to send a message to Prime Minister Harper<\/a> right now urging  him to put the health of people and the environment first.
