(Updated 24 Aug 07) This video shot on Aug 20, 2007 shows CEP Union leader David Coles outing undercover police officers disguised as protesters trying to incite violence among Canadians peacefully protesting the so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) in Montebello, Quebec.<\/span><\/p>\n

S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec admits the masked men are police officers<\/a>, but deny they were trying to incite violence (despite one of them carrying a big rock). If it is true that police officers intentionally tried to incite violence, then we have a serious threat to democracy on our hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please urge Prime Minister Stephen Harper to immediately investigate this possible offence by our security forces<\/a>. Your letter will also be copied to Quebec Premier Jean Charest, Public Security Minister Stockwell Day, opposition party leaders and your Member of Parliament.<\/p>\n

Stopping Deeper Integration with the U.S.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

George Bush, Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon\"\" met behind closed doors in Montebello, Quebec on August 20-21, 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their agenda is to change hundreds of Canadian regulations, laws and policies \u2013 social, cultural, economic, international and security \u2013 to match those in the U.S., creating a \u201cfortress North America\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

This scheme, originally proposed by the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (a lobby group representing the country\u2019s biggest corporations) has been developing in secret for over four years.<\/span><\/p>\n

While corporations such as Walmart and Exxon have been heavily involved in this process, the public and Parliament have been completely excluded.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scheme goes by the deliberately deceptive title \u201cSecurity and Prosperity Partnership of North America\u201d (SPP). It is, in fact, a scheme to transfer power from democratic institutions to corporate board rooms<\/span><\/p>\n

When decision-making takes place behind closed doors, human rights disappear.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The Security and Prosperity Partnership, sadly, appears to trade basic human rights for continued access to the U.S. market,\u201d warn Alex Neve, Secretary General for Amnesty International Canada and Roch Tasse, Coordinator for the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tell Stephen Harper to immediately stop the backroom deals<\/a>, disclose everything that takes place at the Montebello meetings and put the SPP to a national and parliamentary debate so that Canadians can have their say. Let Prime Minister Harper know that you want the government to give priority to human rights and democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n
