{"id":856,"date":"2010-11-04T15:14:32","date_gmt":"2010-11-04T19:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightoncanada.ca\/?p=856"},"modified":"2010-11-04T15:25:33","modified_gmt":"2010-11-04T19:25:33","slug":"canadian-cancer-society-challenges-pm-harper-and-premier-charest-to-stop-exporting-asbestos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rightoncanada.ca\/?p=856","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Cancer Society challenges Premier Charest to Stop Exporting Asbestos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto \u2013 In a letter sent to Quebec Premier Jean Charest, the Canadian Cancer Society is urging the premier not to approve a $58 million loan guarantee to Jeffrey Asbestos Mines, based in Quebec, for the renewal of asbestos mining and export.<\/p>\n<p>Granting a loan guarantee to the mine will help spread the global epidemic of asbestos-related cancers and damage Canada\u2019s reputation as a global leader in public health, says the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll forms of asbestos, including chrysotile asbestos mined in Quebec, cause cancer.
