On December 9th, 2010, the Solidarity Delegation from Asia to Canada held a press conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. The delegation, which represented asbestos victims, trade unions, and Asian health organizations, called on the Canadian Government to close the asbestos mine in Quebec and ban the exportation of asbestos. Kazumi Yoshizaki from Japan and Omana George from India represented the Solidarity Delegation, and they were joined by NDP MPs Pat Martin (Winnipeg-Centre), Thomas Mulcair (Outremont), and Nathan Cullen (Skeena-Bulkley Valley.)
