Asbestos

Stephen Harper was in Asbestos, Quebec on April 26 seeking votes for the Conservative party, saying that he is the only Canadian political leader that supports, and will always support, the asbestos trade. Standing next to Bernard Coulombe, president of the Jeffrey Mine Inc., who is seeking to open a new asbestos mine that would export millions of tonnes of asbestos to developing countries for years to come, Harper was asked if he planned to change regulations in Canada and permit asbestos to put back in Canadian schools and home. Harper said no and expressed his support for this bankrupt, dying industry that exports a known carcinogen to developing countries.
