Asbestos

Kathleen Ruff, RightOnCanada.ca

An important book, calling for stronger health and safety protections for workers around the world, has been published in France. Entitled Les Risques du Travail – Pour ne pas perdre sa vie à la gagner (Work Risks – Workers should not lose their lives to earn a living), the book is unfortunately only available in French.

Here (in English) is one article in the book: Failure of International Organizations to Achieve a Global Ban of Asbestos by Kathleen Ruff. It discusses the role being played by the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization and the Rotterdam Convention in regard to stopping the use of asbestos.

Among the many interesting articles in the book are one by Sanjiv Pandita of the Asia Monitor Resource Center on mobilizing for occupational health in Asia and one by David Michaels and Celeste Monforton on how industries pay scientists to manufacture doubt in order to block needed regulations that would protect the lives of workers.

  1. Tran Tuan Says:

Excellent! Many thanks. I particularly find this message needed show to public media: If asbestos killed workers in Europe and the US, it would surely kill workers in Asia, Africa and South America too”.
