Asbestos

In a letter to Quebec Premier François Legault, dozens of scientists and organisations around the world ask the government to take action to stop the dissemination of false “scientific” information by the International Chrysotile Association. The ICA is financed by asbestos mining companies in Russia, Kazakhstan and Zimbabwe and asbestos industrialists in India and Mexico. Its aim is to sell asbestos in developing countries.

The ICA is registered in Quebec as a non-profit organisation. The Quebec government states that such organisations pursue “moral and altruistic purposes.” The ICA does the opposite. It promotes deadly misinformation that is causing thousands of deaths.

“We believe that this situation is scientifically and morally indefensible,” say the scientists and organisations. They call on the government to end it.
