As Quebec Premier Jean Charest travels through India, he continues to meet protesters asking him to stop exporting deadly asbestos. These images were taken at the demonstration organized by Building & Woodworkers International, who have been campaigning for many years to rid the world of asbestos so that their members will stop dying from asbestos-related diseases.
A representative of Building & Woodworkers International issued this report:
We had a great event. Even the presence of large police did not deter the union activists at the demonstration. The Charest protest letter was handed over to the Political Counselor, Mr. Olivier Hebert. He has assured that as a follow-up to our requests to meet the Premier Charest – they would direct the Canadian High Commission to initiate steps. The press conference also went on well with the participation of both print and visual media. Lastly, the Quebec media invited us to hotel Taj Palace to know our point of view.
